I wanted to tell you about the state of things in the Plottrverse. I’ll quickly go into what we did last year, and then talk about what’s coming up in the future.
As with everything we do, we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback so we can serve you better!
2025
We did so much in 2025, it’s hard to believe it was all in one year. We released feature after feature after feature there at the end.
What We Shipped
- New Account Page
- Storysnap – book bibles
- Offline Beta v2
- Storysnap – virtual beta readers
- Family Tree
- Pinning preview panels
- Bookmarks
- Idea Board
- Idea Threads app
That’s a lot of new features!
Idea Threads deserves its own mention because it’s not just a new feature, it’s a completely new app that we’ve built that helps you to quickly capture your ideas on the go, and then use them magically within Plottr when you have the time later.
The team also poured tons of effort into stability and under-the-hood improvements. You may not see them, but you’ll feel them in a faster, smoother experience.
Experiments
We tried a lot of new things last year. Some worked out, some were just bad, and some we’re still waiting to see. Let me highlight some of the successful ones.
We made a bundle of useful goodies when we launched the Family Tree feature and a lot of people really loved it.
We significantly increased the amount of free education we’re creating. We’re creating both stuff that teaches you about Plottr and how to use it, and secondly stuff that teaches you about writing. We’re not bestselling authors (yet 😉) but we have written a ton of stories and we realized that for people just starting this journey, we can at least help them get to where we are.
I hope everyone enjoys and finds value in all the free stuff we’re making. Videos, checklists, email tips, and more.
We also did our first charitable campaigns this year! We really want to serve writers and what better way than to start when they are young? We’ve committed to donating time and money to helping a non-profit that teaches kids to write as a way to improve their whole life’s trajectory. We love that goal! They are called Cosmic Writers (cosmicwriters.org) and we’re proud to be doing what we can to help those kids.
I also started writing my next book which you can follow along and watch! (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIVZtS2WK7oCcbprwOYpA5Hht9iDF9HXK)
What a Year!
We did so much in 2025. We tried new things, learned a ton, made so many new features that will serve you in your writing process, and really just found an incredible amount of joy just serving you writers and seeing you succeed.
It truly was a life-changing year for us and that’s why I’m excited to tell you where we’re heading.
2026 and Beyond
Last year also came with a lot of emotional struggle. We wrestled with the changing landscape of technology and what it means for writers.
And this year, we have to make a choice. We could either jump on the trendy bandwagons to chase more money and quick growth, or ignore them and keep being awesome the Plottr way.
We’re afraid that those trendy bandwagons (looking at you, AI) are actually putting human-crafted storytelling in peril.
And so this year we feel like we need to strengthen the resolve that we have always had that human-centered storytelling has the power to change lives and improve the world.
So we’re digging our heels in a little and focusing more than ever on empowering you to tell compelling stories.
AI is NOT coming to Plottr
That’s right. We’re not building AI features into Plottr. We’re keeping it human-centered, human-focused, human-crafted.
It feels like AI is being crammed into everything these days, but we don’t want to empower some machine to write the book for you.
We know that you love the craft, and so do we!
Writing craft is still the most important part. Your ability to shape story, character, and meaning remains the foundation of writing and publishing. That doesn’t change in 2026. It won’t change after that either.
We’re more clear about that than ever and not only are we going to keep the software human-centered, but our team is more dedicated to human-crafted storytelling than ever.
We will strive to be examples of putting craft first in our own writing, and also help to share how the stories we have read throughout our lives have changed us both as people and as writers.
Feature Roadmap
So since AI features are not on the roadmap, what is?
We’re not done innovating yet! We have a long list of ideas for new features that we can’t wait to get to, BUT instead of diving into more and more new features this year, we’re going to focus on improving the Plottr experience as a whole and looking at each feature to refine it and make it easier to use.
We’re going to make Plottr even more powerful, easier to use, and even more fun. It’ll be so good that you’ll just have to tell your friends—maybe again—about the best tool for writing and creativity out there.
This is going to be an amazing year! We value your support and can’t wait to serve you this year too.
Long live human-crafted storytelling!
P.S.
We’re still in the middle of the transition between two account systems, so if you’re having trouble, just contact Support and we’ll get everything straightened out!
